In my last post, we had a peek under the skulls of 40 socially-conscious entrepreneurs. There were so many different and exciting things going on inside their brains, so I wanted to dig around a bit more.
I next asked:
“If I could do one thing to the inside of your brain to make your business more successful than it already is, what would that thing be?”
what if I had a magic wand?
Here are the secret fixes they crave:
- FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!
- make it all look clearer
- stop worrying about the business
- help me to communicate my thoughts
- set up a ritual that keeps me on track
- remove anxiety
- activate the left side so I am more realistic and pragmatic
- create a feeling of satisfaction
- improve my listening skills
- give me the ability to drill into problems
Nearly half of the entrepreneurs asked for the ability to focus – they want to know exactly what they’re offering, where they’re heading, and how they’re going to get there.
Come back in two weeks when I give you some tips on how to find that focus.
over to you…
As always, I’d love to hear from you. What would you use the magic wand for? Share your comments below.
do you crave focus?
Have you also identified the need to focus?
Do you need space and time to properly think and put everything in order?

Ah yes, many of my clients have asked for the same thing, Danielle – a magic wand that will help them to FOCUS. I’m looking forward to reading your tips in future blogs.
Personally, I’d use the magic wand to… release some of the perfectionism from my brain. If I can leave a typo here, or do something 80% there, I have more time and energy to focus on high impact.
I’d love a little brain eraser that still keeps my value of excellence but allows me to let a few of the less important things slide 🙂

I love the idea of a brain eraser! Something to keep all the great things but rub away a few little bits that cause us to get distracted.
Getting to 80% perfect may be too scary to contemplate when you’re currently operating at 100%. What would 95% look like? How would it make you feel?
Yes, I have found focus an issue in my self-employed start-up life. Sometimes I need to clarify where I am and priorities. My magic tool is a flip chart. I sit in my studio and the act of standing at a BIG blank sheet of paper with big coloured pens and writing the plan for the day/week which stays on the chart stand. Then when the woolly headed moments come, I turn around and look at my priorities for the week. Or I remind myself of my strategic priorities/update them, I write on the flip-chart paper then stick around my studio on blutack.
Thanks for sharing your tips Fi! I wish I had the space to put big pieces of white paper up everywhere. My to do list resides on a sheet of A4 paper, but I also use lots of coloured pens. 🙂
